Hypnosis

What is hypnosis?

Although scientifically we're not sure how hypnosis works, much like electricity, people have tried to explain it with lots of technical and scientific jargon no one knows for sure. Even though we don't know how hypnosis works, it is an altered state of consciousness. Imagination seems to simulate you brain to effect your body through nerve impulses and chemicals.

Remember a time when you were watching a movie, reading a great book, motorway driving or any other time your attention was completely focused to the exclusion of all things. Your mind is quiet and focused, blocking out all distractions and very likely relaxed. In this state you're more responsive to suggestions, more open and less critical, therefore a state that is easy to alter a belief or habit.

[top]

I don't what to be turned into a chicken, carrot, etc.,

If you have ever seen a stage hypnotist and the seemingly control over the volunteers on stage. Stage hypnosis is entertainment and the people on stage are up on stage to entertain, as a therapist I'm there to help you, please see "Will I loose control?".

[top]

Will I loose control?

Hypnosis is a heightened state of concentration and focused attention. When you're under hypnosis, you don't lose your free will or your personality. I don't hypnotise you, all hypnosis is self hypnosis, and I just guide you as navigator guides a driver. I can't make you do anything do anything or go anywhere you don't want too.

[top]

What is trance state?

A trance is a natural state that can occur whenever your attention is narrowly focused and relatively free of distractions. Your attention may be focused either internally (on internal self-talk, visual images, or both) or externally (on a task, a book, a movie, etc.). The focus of attention is so narrow that other stimuli in the environment are ignored or blocked out of conscious awareness for a time. During trance, habitual behaviors may be performed without conscious awareness (i.e., behavior performed without mental effort). Examples of common trance states are daydreaming, meditation, or being involved in a really good book or movie.

[top]

What if I can not go deeply enough?

Depth of trance isn't important, in most cases. A few hypnotists are fixated about trance depth and "you can't get therapy unless you're at 'n' level of trance". My belief and experience is your willingness to change, the trust you have in me (the therapist) and trance enough to fully focus on the therapy is all the matters.

[top]

How will I feel when I'm hypnotised? Will I be sleeping or unconscious?

Hypnosis is a very comfortable and relaxing experience. It is not sleep or coma like! Most people very aware of what's going on around them, in fact some of senses may became even more sensitive then normal. See "What is a trance state" for more information.

[top]

Can everyone be hypnotised?

Everyone can be hypnotized provided that they want to be. Anyone who wishes to be hypnotised can be. Hypnosis is not something one person "does" to another.  We are all born with the ability to enter and utilize trance. The depth of its use, deliberate or unwittingly, varies from person to person.

[top]

I can't be hypnotised!

You have to be willing to hypnotised! The better your ability to concentrate or focus is will be an asset for hypnosis. People with a wide range of intellectual giftedness or limitations can be hypnotised. Almost anyone can be hypnotised, even young children.

[top]

I've been to a hypnotist before and they said I could not be hypnotised.

You have to want to be hypnotised. Maybe the hypnotist before didn't fully explain what a trance is or what it may feel like. If some reason (surrounding, trust, skill of the hypnotist, etc) you couldn't be or didn't feel you were, that doesn't mean you can't be. See "I can't be hypnotised", "What is trance state?" and the other questions in the FAQ.

[top]

Will I be forced to tell the truth?

Unlike the hypnosis in the films, you can lie in hypnosis just as you can in your normal state! If there is information that is very personal to yourself, you can choose to tell me or not. Hypnosis can bring back information that has been repressed or forgotten, but this will be biased to your version of the memory!

[top]

Can I be sure that the memories I reveal are real?

There is no totally reliable way to accurately recall memories. All memories are biased to how you filtered in the memory and it will always be your version. This is true also of past life regression.

[top]

Is it possible to make me do or think negative things?

There is no doubt that people can be manipulated into doing things against their will and even against their systems of value and belief. This doesn't necessarily need hypnosis either! Not only would I never do this, I'm bound to a code of ethics not too. I will explain what we will be doing before starting the trance, so you have a good idea of what to expect and asking any questions.

[top]

Can I bring someone with me to my session?

Yes, you can bring anyone with you if you need the reassurance and if that makes you comfortable.

[top]

Is hypnosis safe?

Yes, hypnosis is safe when a competent and qualified hypnotist like me practices it.

[top]

Will you make me drag up or relive the past?

Most of my therapy work is "content free" and You don't have to tell me anything if you don't wait too. I strongly believe that the past is best left in the past! You obviously survived the past events and if it caused you negative emotions - hence your contemplating seeing me - then we'll focus on removing/neutralising those emotions.

[top]

Can you make me forget my past?

See "Will you make me drag up or relive the past?".

[top]

Will I remember anything about the session?

Generally you will remember as much as you want to remember. There maybe rare times when it is important for you not to remember, due to trauma or such. These is rare, as I would rather have you neutralise the negative emotions linked to the memory and get on with your life.

Past life regression

Is past life regression dangerous?

When the regression is treated responsibly, using a trained and experienced hypnotist like myself, then there is no danger. Some experiences in your past life maybe emotional, I'll help guide you through these times, but they are part of your explorations and experiences.

Remember a time you were inspired by or moved by a film, book or show, the experiences you had then; now imagine how amazing these experiences will be after a regression session.

[top]

How long is the past life regression session?

It is the same as a standard session and is usually 60 to a maximum of 90 minutes. The great thing about regression is that the days following the regression you will, very likely, continue to dream/recall the regression and the vividness of the scenes you explored will increase.

[top]

Is past life regression real?

There are many groups of thought on this. Some of these groups of thought include:

  • You are going back and remembering memories stored in your "super-conscious", a very deep core of your unconsciousness.
  • It's your unconscious creating a historical fantasy, from thing's you have learnt, read or seen.
  • It's like a spiritual link to someone else's life and you're channelling this spirits experiences.
  • You're channelling these experiences from a "common consciousness" and mixing them with you experiences to create a pic'n'mix of fantasy and reality.

The list of possibilities goes on and the debate will never end. I'd like to say for a fact that it's all real, but even though there are sessions that are amazingly accurate I've not seen it "proved". My belief doesn't matter, it's only your belief that matters and for me to give you the very best experience you can have.

Only you can take away the images and emotions from this experience that will allow you to decide if it was real or just like watching a great film!

TFT

What is TFT?

Thought field therapy (TFT) is an energy therapy developed by the US clinical psychologist Roger Callahan over 30 years ago. He discovered that getting a patient to think about an emotional problem while gently tapping on a specific point along the body's energy pathways (meridian lines) was very effective for curing phobias and anxiety issues.

[top]

What is EFT?

Emotional freedom technique (EFT) is a later development of TFT, devised by Gary Craig, a US engineer, who was one of Callahan's first students. Craig created a universal tapping sequence instead of using algorithms. This FAQ section will cover TFT, but most of the answers work just as well for EFT questions.

[top]

What happens during a TFT session?

I'll ask you to rate your problem using the SUD scale (see "What is SUDS?"). I'll then ask you to tap on a sequence of points on your body; this is while you think of the problem. Typically this will result in a reduction of the SUDS - your emotional link to the problem.

[top]

How effective is TFT?

Meridian therapies (TFT, EFT, etc) have proven themselves very effective. TFT has proven itself with measurable and permanent results over 20 plus years. It has been called "The power therapy of the 21st century" due to its effectiveness and a lot of common problems can be cleared within a single session.

[top]

Do I need to believe in it to work?

No! Your belief is not necessary for the therapy to work. Sceptics have repeatedly found this therapy to work for them, without their personal belief in it, just as antibiotics do not need your personal belief in them to work!

[top]

Is TFT safe?

Yes! It is safe and works well on everyone including children and the elderly. There are no needles, drugs or any other invasive means.

[top]

Is TFT painful?

No! There aren't any needles, drugs or any other invasive means nor do you need to openly talk for ages about you problems, as long as you can think of the issue that is all you need.

[top]

Can this work for children?

Yes! TFT is simple and safe, which makes it very suitable for children and infants. TFT can help them with anxiety, phobias, anger, traumas, fears, even thumb sucking and other issues.

[top]

What research has been carried out on TFT?

I'm not aware of any controlled studies on any therapies, be that meridian therapies or any other complimentary therapies. There are measured results using HRV testing and testimonials of many thousands of people helped by these therapies.

[top]

It worked well, but now seems to have worn off, what's happened?

If TFT was only giving you temporary results, then I would consider that there is something you are either eating, drinking, wearing, smelling or coming into contact with that is an energy toxin to you. This will need to be tested against and once found the results will be long lasting.

[top]

What is SUDS?

The Subjective Units of Distress Scale (SUDS) is a number scale, in this case, from 0 to 10. Use these numbers to represent your emotion/issue level at your problem, think of 0 as totally relaxed and 10 as extremely overwhelmed, the numbers in between represent the varying degrees between these.

Noesitherapy

What is Noesitherapy?

Noesitherapy is an amazing pain control technique discovered and developed by Dr. Juan (Angel) Escudero, a surgeon from Valencia Spain. He has treated tens of thousands of people and used Noesitherapy to help mothers in childbirth (Noesibabies).

Noesitherapy has been seen on British T.V in BBC's series of documentaries called "Your Life In Their Hands" and BBC's "Mysteries" series with Carol Vorderman.

The word "Noesi" is taken from the Greek language and means "the action of thinking".So combined with the word "therapy" it means "healing by thinking".

[top

What is Noesitherapy good for?

Noesitherapy can be used to replace chemical anaesthesia and analgesia. It is commonly used to remove chronic pain in many conditions such as back pain, arthritic joint pain, burns, dental pain, degenerative illnesses and many other complaints. It is also used for childbirth and surgical procedures.

The great bonus of psychoanalgesia is that when it is used the body will naturally start to heal itself. Which means that you heal faster, recover faster and will help you to remain healthy. As long as you stay in the positive biological state you will heal.

[top

I've had Noesitherapy and even though there's no pain I can still feel the area, is it not working?

It's important to note that Noesitherapy gives you psychoanalgesia, this only blocks the pain receptors for that area and no other receptors hence you can still have all other sensations around the area. The basic difference between anaesthesia and analgesia is the anaesthesia blocks all receptors so there is no feeling at all and analgesia only blocks the pain leaving all other sensations.

[top

Is Noesitherapy just like hypnosis?

Dr. Escudero believes this is not hypnosis and as an experienced hypnotherapist I can confirm that there are no formal trance inductions. The only similarities to hypnosis are that the therapist has to have rapport with you (the client) and you have to repeat phrases, almost like suggestions.

Psychoanalgesia doesn't need a trance like state and therefore you are completely conscious and alert.

[top

Is this a short term fix?

The research on this therapy has been very positive and some of the clients I have helped have be pain free for years afterward, without any other treatments. The great thing about Noesitherapy is once I've shown you how to use it you will, with practice, be able to use this instead of painkillers, so even if the pain does start to come back you will be able to remove it again.

[top

If this is such a great therapy, how come I've never heard of it before?

I believe this is mainly a political issue between the creator of Noesitherapy Dr. Escudero and one of the original trainers in the UK Keith Jones, hence few practitioners in the UK. Noesitherapy is more commonly know in Spanish speaking countries and other areas of Europe.

[top

How do you pronounce Noesitherapy?

"No-ee-sea-therapy"
